A blog about my life, minecraft, music, and more!

Project Overview

I have been away from blogging for a long time, and I have decided I wanted to get back into it.  In the month of May, I might not have many posts, as I will be studying for my AP test, and might not have time to do as many posts as I would like, but in June and the summer, I will be trying to get a post out almost everyday!  All my blog posts will mostly be a step by step on my projects, and how I am doing with them.  I have 3 projects planned for this spring and summer, and one is to be released Friday, May 4, 2012!  I cannot wait for this project to be complete.  It is a Minecraft Server List!  If you are a server owner and want to beta test this amazing new website, please send me an email at (minecraft@thisrunner.com)!  Thanks for reading, and hope I got some server owners to help beta test my new project!

Biggest Upset Day in Tournament History!

Friday, March 16, 2012 will go down in history as the greatest upset day in Men’s March Madness.  Since I did not [officially] fill out a bracket this year, I was cheering right along with all the underdogs.  When I fill out a bracket, I am more apt to cheer for the teams that I picked, so I have a chance to win in my “pool”, but this year I have a small “pool” that does not even matter, so I am cheering for every underdog (except Syracuse, I like them).

Down below, there is a list of games played Friday.

Stats from the list above:

Games played: 16

Upsets: 8

Non-Upsets: 8

Upset Percentage: 50%

Upset Fraction: 8/16 or 1/2

Some Analysis:

As you can see above, TWO 15 seed teams won.  This has happened before, 4 time before to be exact.

Richmond over Syracuse in 1991

Santa Clara over Arizona in 1993 (Steve Nash was PG)

Coppin State over South Carolina in 1997

Hampton over Iowa State in 2001

On Friday, that number jumped from 4 to 6.  It was the first time ever that 2 number 15 seed hove moved on in the same tournament, let alone the same day!  So Yesterday, Friday, March 16, 2012, on day 4, round two of the 2012 NCAA March Madness tournament should go down as the “Biggest Upset Day in Tournament History”!

eRepublik

eRepublik is a really fun online game that anyone can enjoy.  It is free, which is always a plus, but there is an option to buy some items that will help, but are not required.  This is a game about the world.  You register, and pick a country to live in, and be a citizen of.

This is when the fun starts.  This can be very confusing, but eRepublik does a pretty good job of showing you what to do.  You get a few buildings, and a few farms to start.  These are a food factory, and wheat farms.  This is the base of your survival.  You need food to do tasks, such as farm, and make food, as well as fight.

You can join a political party, and a MU (Military Unit).  This is when you start to fight in wars and battles.  You fight to protect your countries or allies land, or you fight to take over land.  You can also fight to gain independence, and even more reasons that you will learn as you play the game.

This is one of the best games I have played in a long time.  It is well made, as well as having aspects that keep you coming back.  I encourage you to check out this game, and you can do so HERE.

Thanks for reading, and hope you enjoy the game!

eRepublik Congress Speech

Hello,

This is Runner15 on eRupublik.

I am running for congress in the Yukon, Canada.

I have been playing this game for a little while, as a citizen, and I am  ready to take the next step into congress.  I have a very good amount of political experience, as well as a great amount of knowledge about the economy.

I can help Canada run it’s government, while also bringing in new citizens who will be profitable and help out our country.

I hope this speech was well written, and hope you vote me into congress.

Thank you,

Runner15

Research Paper: iPhone 5, Media, and 1984

The media has a large role in how humans live their life.  It helps people decide where to go, what to buy, and how to get there.  The media has many different aspects, from world news to technology. The iPhone 5 was rumored and was believed to be released in 2011.  As in George Orwell’s “1984”, the media controls what people believe and think.  In reality, Apple stock dropped after the iPhone was not release because the media had altered the world’s view of the iPhone 5.

The iPhone is one of the most sought after and popular phones, according to huffingtonpost.  The iPhone 5 was one of the most rumored about phone and even electronic in 2011.  The rumors started after the iPhone 4 was released, as they have with every other iPhone release.  The iPhone 5 was one of the most talked about phones.  The iPhone 4 was released right before many technological advances.  These included 4G LTE, quad-core processors, NCF chips, and 3D technology.  This was a much bigger jump than from the iPhone 3 to the iPhone 4, so people had much more to speculate about.

The iPhone 5’s rumors would be there no matter what.  They would not be as big as they were without the help of one strong force in our world, the media.  The media consists of blogs, newspapers, and television, as well as others.  Some of the large media corporations that had rumors about the iPhone 5 included BBC, NY Times, and CNN.  These are some of this bigger media sources, but many other smaller ones, such as blogs reported on the features and release of the iPhone 5.

These media feeds and sources altered the view of many people, and made them believe that the iPhone 5 was a guaranteed release in 2011.  CNET stated that “the iPhone 5 is coming in August”.  August came and went and there was no new iPhone 5.  There were no Apple products released at all, until October.  This was when the new iPhone came out.  Instead of being an iPhone 5, it was an iPhone 4S.  This was a huge disappointment and came as a shock to many people who were extremely expectant of an iPhone 5 to come out.  They did not think anything but the iPhone 5 would come out because from many media sources, they heard the same thing, the release of the iPhone 5.

As in George Orwell’s “1984”, where the people believed what the media told them, people believed the media that the iPhone 5 was coming out.  The people in “1984” we brainwashed to believe everything the media wanted them to.  This included thinking that the chocolate ration went up when in actuality it fell.  This is similar to the iPhone 5.  Everyone expected an iPhone 5 to be releases, mostly to the media.

“1984” is a novel by George Orwell published in 1949, showing what life will be like in 1984.  The author tells that there will be a dictatorship, with media that controls everything.  This includes what the people think and believe, such as dates, times, and wars.  The media also what the people thought, such as the ration for a good, or the price of a good.

This is how the media exploding about the iPhone 5 relates to “1984”.  People in reality were almost forced to believe that the iPhone 5 was to be released in 2011, and here in 2012, there is still no iPhone 5.  As in both situations, the media plays a strong and very important role in how the people think and what they believe.  This is evident in “1984” and extremely evident in the iPhone 5 situation and rumors.

How I Got Into Minecraft

I love Minecraft.  It is my favorite video game of all time.  I have only had a few consoles, such as the Wii, PS2, and PSP.  I also have the iPod which I play some games on, but Minecraft on the PC is definitely the best. I will start with how I started Minecraft, and then finish with why I keep playing it.

How I Started?

I started back in the early part of 2010.  I have this club at school called FIRST, which if you clicked the link, you probably saw that it was a smart persons club.  So here, I saw people playing Minecraft for the first (pun intended) time.  The first thing I remember seeing in Minecraft was a castle my friend built in single player, and since the castle was on a hill, below the hill there was some sort of light.  Be it torch, glowstone, or lava, I do not know because I did not know what any of those were at the time.

I remember as I watched my friend play minecraft telling him to “Kill that monster” and “place that torch”.  I remember his answer to both of those was “no”, and at the time I had no idea why.

I think this was back in Minecraft Alpha, because I remember later that year, people were talking about how it had just gotten out of Alpha and was now more expensive.  I had gone home after the first few times I saw it, and had looked on MinecraftWiki a little bit, so I knew more about the game at this time.  I wanted to start playing the game about now, so, I got a “trial” copy from my friend.

It was really fun.  It took me forever to find coal, and I just had to suffer through the nights without any light in the small shelter I made in a mountain.  I started playing a lot, and building cool stuff.  I wanted to build cool things, but always found I didn’t have enough materials, or I didn’t have the right materials.  I think the main reason I got invedit was that I needed diamonds.  I started with cheat engine and changed the amount of stuff I had, but I did not have any diamonds to do that with, so I got invedit.

With invedit, I started building my massive mansion and rail system.  This was before power rails, so I had a gigantic booster rail system, that stretched from  my first house, to my mansion that I was building, and even to my mine and my above ground dungeon (which was the first one I had ever found).  It was a nice track system, with my new mansion, my world and Minecraft experience was coming along nicely.

I was following the updates and had read MinecraftWiki about five times over.  I was pretty excited for all the new updates, and everything that was added to the game.  I was told by some people in my club that I should buy the full game, so I could play multiplayer.  They had said once you fight a horde of zombies with other people, you would never go back to singleplayer.  I believed him, as I saw his logic, but at the time, I did not have the money to buy the game.  I found some offline mode servers and tried those out.

I tried many servers, but the one I played the most on at first was blockface.  That was not the name when I started, but the name escapes me now and I do not know where to find it.  It was a great offline mode server, the best that I had found, that used towny and virtualshop to make a great combination.  I played through three maps on that server.

During this time, I was getting my own friends into Minecraft.  This consisted of Jeremy1080 and DrLoussin.  This was about the time EverythingEris came into existence.  Jeremy1080 started a server for just us three to start.  Jeremy1080 and I went off to a summer camp sometime after this.  Here, we talked about and planned how to get our server out to the public and how to make it big.  We both still had the “trial” version at the time, so for about 3 months, we ran an offline mode server.

At about 1.7, I decided that I wanted a skin.  I also wanted to go on other servers, but the main reason was I wanted a skin on my server.  It was getting bigger, and I did not want the default Steve skin.  I bought the game in October, and I got the skin of Bob Marley.  I still have that skin today.

Today, EverythingEris has an average of 20 people on during the weekday days, 30 at weekday nights, and 30-60 on the weekends.  It went from three friends using the “trial” version of the game to those same three friends make a big server, almost breaking into the first page of minestatus, the most popular server list on the internet today.

Minecraft has a lot of features that keeps me playing for this long.  The main reason is multiplayer.  My friend was right, there is no coming back from multiplayer.  Even with PvP or mobs off, multiplayer trumps singleplayer.  I like how often Minecraft implemented new blocks and features into the game.  It is a building game, which allows me to do anything I want.  I can build houses, art, or the 7 World Wonders.  I can farm (which I like a lot), and I can fight mobs (monsters).  I can do anything I want in this game, which with all the other games out there, is saying a lot.

I will stay will Minecraft for a very long time in the future.

Thank you for reading how I started playing this awesome game and what keeps me playing!  Hope you either play Minecraft or will start playing.  It is worth it for sure.

Rap Lyrics (Remember the Name Parody)

You Readyyyy?  Let’s Go!

ya, For those of you who want to know what econ’s all about,

It’s like this y’all (c’mon)

This is 75 percent consumption, 18 percent government spending,

15 percent investment, bonds, stocks, and more

5 percent exports, 8 percent imports,

And 100 percent total of GDP

AD- It’s a demand curve yes it is, on a graph

It’s the demand we have for products, services, such and like

Keynes came up with this curve; along with AS

Putting MX, C, G, and I together like there’s no need to stress

And yes, it measure everything

It all about our in(i)come

Finding out our sum, now and again

Making a line, making it slant left

So that when we make the AS, it all is right. AS

What is it anyway?

It shows us a lot

Not caring how much we buy but what we make

Measuring what firms can produce when they are hot

And yes, it even has two lines, but that is fine

One is the short run; the other is a straight line

Never shifts without pop change, or more resource

It doesn’t really shift much, only when you know more

And when it shifts, we need more in store

Its just demand and supply

A simple graph

Be sure you make it right, or I might just cry

And who would have thought that it just makes eco work, and makes this rhyme

When one of them shifts, they just have to go back

To LRAS or then it is whack, fac(t)

Its like whoa line, why you messing with us?

But now, we ain’t got a choice no more

Supply and demand cannot be ignore(d)

It’s 50% congress

50% Fed

Combine MD & MS to keep us outa da red

Influenced by policies

Congress and the Fed name

Don’t over complicate it cuz econ’s not a game.

They call him Ben the Bernanke

And he’s head of the Fed

They control the money supply

That’s fixed so it’ll reach for the sky

They purchase bonds when we’re suffering

MS right AD up

Then they sell bonds when we get strong

And interest rates rise back up

They target interest rates

Using FFR as their tool

These are Open market ops, also called OMO

And the FOMC, yeah they got Bernanke’s back

Discussing rates and operations to keep the Fed right on track.

MD

Cash demand, it curves downward you see

Cuz with higher interest rates

Ups holding cost of money

MD & AD, yeah, they are intertwined

When price level goes up

MD shifts right in kind

Theory of LP

Preferred liquidity

States that interest rates will balance the MS & MD

And the point on the graph where MS and MD meet

Is the point that is called equilibrium interest rate

Fiscal Policy

This sets government spending and taxes

All of this is set by congress and they set the maxes

The multiplier effect, yeah it raises the income

This shifts AD right to an indefinable sum

And the multiplier equals 1 over MPS

But crowding out effect can stop some of the excess

The AD shifts drop interest rates so people don’t buy,

But if both work together they can stabilize.

It’s just the Phillips Curve

Inverse Relationship,

Showing unemployment and the inflation dip

It’s not just the short

Add in the long run

Don’t beat on economics cuz we’re not even done

Call it the econ genie

Econ’mists know where its at

Long run PC, vertical

Like my banana tree

Inflation don’t affect the

Na’tral rate, ‘Xasperate

In this long run show of the curve you know

They made it a date

Fifty-three years ago

He was A. Dubyah Phillips

Now his namesake econ surve’s takin’ over the home

He had no partner in crime, he made it all on his own

You know his theory’s even made it into the

Bernanke’s head

Pap

We gone say the fed buys some bonds

To see how the Phillips curve relates

To’ol AD and AS

Inject the cash into money supply

Now the interest rates fall for the common man,

And he spends his abundant bills,

Our AD is up

But supply’s still the same

Inflation is up and the unemployment rate is…

Down like a government rebate

So now that means we make a move up our curve

All cuz the Phillip is everything our AS

King Phillip

Only one indiscernible fact of,

The way we shift this macroeconomic banana

If our supply shift ‘cuz of a gasoline price drop

We see a shift in king Phillip ‘cuz of supply of shock

Now there’s one more way, to make this Spanish monarch bop,

The people gotta spend like there’s low inflation

The lower the expectations the lower the curve

Now we see the ape’s split with his flow, you know

Gotta a place to get to, yeah you know her, Dixie kong!
